MEET ATX: How I Co-Founded the Alamo Drafthouse

Karrie graduated in 1992 from Rice University with degrees in Biology and French Literature.

Karrie graduated in 1992 from Rice University with degrees in Biology and French Literature.  She started in a PhD program in Microbiology at UC Davis, but quickly decided that this was not the right path for her.  She moved to Bakersfield, CA to operate an ill-fated movie theater with then-boyfriend Tim League.  In 1995 Tim and Karrie got married, relocated to Austin and co-founded the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.   She was responsible for most of the behind-the-scenes business functions of the theater until 2010.  After stepping away from this role in recent years, she has returned to work in 2019 to facilitate the creation of a Sustainability Task Force, dedicated to reducing the environmental footprint of the business.
